The University of Seville, although it is the oldest university in Andalusia (1505), is currently adapted to the new requirements of distance learning. The Permanent Training Center (CFP) offers courses and supplementary training based on the Blackboard Collaborate Virtual Teaching Platform. Its geographical location facilitates a strategic role in relation to other regions of the world, both close (the Western Mediterranean and the Maghreb) and further (Ibero-America), with strong historical and cultural connections. These facts justify the headquarters of the International Center, which, among other things, manages a set of international projects in which the University of Seville participates annually with over 4,000 foreign students. The partner institution in Seville, the Institute for the Analysis of Regional Geography at the Faculty of Geography and History, has for many years maintained active scientific and teaching cooperation with the scientific community and universities in Morocco (primarily with Abdelmalek Essaadi University, which has its headquarters in both Tangier and Tetouan ). The institutions jointly conduct research in the fields of social sciences, history and geography. University professors Jesús Ventura-Fernández and Jesús Gabriel Moreno-Navarro led research projects on the Strait of Gibraltar and northern Morocco, some of which were funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). These projects focused on the dramatic territorial changes that took place in northern Morocco, especially on the Tangier-Tetouan Peninsula following the launch of the Tangier-MED port hub near the Spanish city of Ceuta. Researchers also assessed or monitored other projects and infrastructure developments around the Strait of Gibraltar, taking into account the promotion of coastal tourism, land use changes and nature. The university has excellent staff and impressive facilities enabling online education. Despite these facilities, as in the case of other partner universities, the Covid-19 epidemic revealed the partial unpreparedness of the teaching staff to conduct classes remotely. Hence, participation in the project is intended to allow the University of Seville to enrich its experience, primarily in the development of new interdisciplinary, international study programs conducted online and digital materials supporting the teaching process.
